HEALTH BENEFITS OF PINOT NOIR WINE:
Pinot noir has a reputation for being a healthy wine because pinot grapes have thin skin, which means they have low tannins but high resveratrol. Pinot grapes have a lower ABV (Alcohol by volume) and fewer calories than other red wines.
The health benefits associated with drinking red wines are mainly associated with a powerful antioxidant called resveratrol.
Antioxidant ~ is a substance that prevent chemicals called free radicals
(a type of unstable molecule that is made during normal cell metabolism) linked to a variety of diseases (including heart disease and certain cancers), that damage cell membranes and other structures, especially one used to counteract the deterioration of stored food products.
Some conditions caused by free radicals include:
Deterioration of the eye lens, which contributes to vision loss
Inflammation of the joints (arthritis)
Damage to nerve cells in the brain, which contributes to conditions (such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease)
Acceleration of the aging process
Increased risk of coronary heart disease, since free radicals encourage low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol to stick to artery walls. and
Certain cancers triggered by damaged cell DNA.
Resveratrol is said to help prevent damage to blood vessels, reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) and prevent blood clots.
